April’s story “Project Fumarase” won a 2016 Pushcart Prize—she thanks Southern author Dale Ray Phillips (My People’s Waltz) for a rigorous revision, at which she might have initially balked. Her debut story collection, The Poor Children, won Grand Prize for the Santa Fe Writers Project 2013 Literary Awards Program for Fiction. April has held residencies at Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and Ucross Foundation. Her debut novel, Carousel, is forthcoming in 2019 with Inanna Publications.

Emery Duffey, Editorial Assistant, SFK Press

Emery has worked as a freelance writer for five years, but her love for language began as soon as she started walking. She earned her B.A. in English from the University of West Georgia, making her the third generation on her father’s side to graduate from the institution. As a native Georgian who has spent most of her life by the side of a creek, she draws inspiration from the state’s oddball weather patterns, wildlife, and people. Her poetry has been published in a number of The Bitchin’ Kitsch issues. Learn more about Emery here.
